My plans on New Year's evening haven't changed much over the years. 😴
Happy New Year's everyone! 🥳
Remember when cartoons were only on until 9AM during the week?
When we were not in school, after 9AM, the lineup had all the B&W classics like I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Dennis the Menace, and the Andy Griffith Show.
No cartoons, though. 😕 📺
This was pretty accurate...eyes red, tired enough that I would be on the verge of passing out, and still playing video games. 🥱🎮
If I received a video game for Christmas, I'd play as much of it as I could during Christmas break. The goal was to get enough time playing the game that I could return to school without thinking about it. The last thing I needed was another reason to be distracted in class. 🙃😉
Merry Christmas! 🎅🏻🎄🎁
After opening presents on Christmas morning, I couldn't wait to try out the new games! I'd play games until my eyes hurt! 👀 🎮
Recreating one of my favorite Christmas moments...
On summer vacation one year, I used my allowance money to purchase a NES Player's Handbook. I was so mesmerized over all the games available for the system, I POURED over that book leading up to Christmas, reading about every game.
Would I be lucky enough to get a NES for Christmas that year?
YES!
Sorry to say that was the last my parents saw me, as I would now live in front of the TV. 😅📺🎮
Inspired by last night's dinner 😋
When you spend the day cooped up in the house, it can be a real treat when Mom and Dad take you out for dinner. 🍔🍟🥤
By the way, I wouldn't recommend stopping by that restaurant today...you may be a bit disappointed in their Sunday service. 😅
You knew it was going to feel like a long school day when the weather kept the class from having recess. 😕🏈⚽️
A family tradition that always ushered in the start of the Christmas season ... decorating the tree 🎄😊
An annual event that would signify the start of the Christmas season...creating your wish list! Naturally, as a child, I'd tend to get a little carried away 😅🎄🎁
The consequences of receiving an interim...grounded, stuck in my room, listening to the kids outside playing.😞
It never failed...it seemed like every time interims were passed out, I'd get at least one. 😱
I guess that happens when you choose not to do your homework. 😅
The anxiety knowing the lecture waiting for you when you took it home to get signed would be unbearable. 😫
As soon as I'd get home from school, I'd ditch my book bag and run right over to my friend's house next door. 🎒😁
Occasionally, when I had a test the next school day, I'd "forget" to take home my textbook. My mother would get furious with me, and would tell me to march right back to school to get it. Problem was, they'd lock the doors shortly after school let out.
If I came home empty handed...😳
Remembering those slow Sunday afternoons, lying on the family room floor reading comics while my father watched the races on TV 🏁🏎
My parents would take away my television privileges when I got bad grades in school. Fortunately, my bedroom was next to my sister's, so I could catch some shows off her TV while she watched hers. 😉📺🙃
A nickname we gave the school bus since it kinda resembled the cheese sticks the cafeteria often served the kids 🧀😁
Growing up, chores could be...a chore.
Even though I thought I did a decent job cleaning, it typically wasn't up to my mother's standards. Often I had to go back and clean a second or third time to pass Mom's "white glove" test.
Sometimes she didn't point out what she saw, so it definitely made it nerve-racking. 🧽💧😅
