How many of us heard our mothers say something like, "It's too nice of a day to spend it inside"? If that was true, why did she often stay INSIDE when she threw us OUT? 🤔

Was it a ploy to get us outside to enjoy the weather, a means for us to go out and get some exercise, or a way to get us kids out of her hair for a few hours? 😉

Wrench

A benefit of having a father who constantly worked around the house...there were always opportunities to learn! 🚗🔧😁

Forgotten

Something my sister and I would often try when we were grounded...test and see if Mom and Dad had forgotten how long we were grounded for!

Surprisingly, they did forget frequently!

Mixed Signals

Talk about mixed signals...🤔

Literally within minutes of yelling at me, my parents would often act nice, like nothing ever happened. It would be quite confusing. 🙃

Mom typically was the one who would yell...

...when it was DAD that yelled, you KNEW you were in trouble! 😳

Grounded!

This was typically how I saw my neighborhood friends this time in the school year...through my bedroom window! 😅

By now, I usually had neglected my schoolwork enough to severely impact my grades. When my parents would find out, they would pretty much ground me for the rest of the school year. 😮‍💨📚🎒

Warmin' Up!

The weather is finally beginning to warm up!

It was always a great feeling walking out the door for the first time in the season without needing a jacket or sweatshirt! 😊

Stand

 

Sometimes on Saturdays, the family would venture out of the city and onto the country backroads, and after a short drive, we'd stop at a small fruit and veggie stand. Mom and Dad would let us pick out the produce we'd have later for dinner. 😊🍎🫑

Lunch

Sometimes, you just didn't want to eat what your mother packed you for lunch. 😅🥪

Arcade

It only happened once or twice in my life...

...stumbling onto an empty arcade!

The concept that I could play any game in the whole arcade was mind blowing! 🤯

No Truth and Consequences

I don't know why I even tried to lie to my parents...they could always tell when I wasn't telling the truth! 😅

There's Always Tomorrow

This was my attitude towards schoolwork far too often! 😅 📚

Too Cool

It never failed...anytime I tried to "be cool", there was always something that would make my attempt fall flat! 😅 🎒📚

Parade

As the weather warms up, it reminds me that parade season is right around the corner!

Before I became a drummer for the group, I was the mascot for the drum and majorette corps that my sister was part of. During the peak of the warmer seasons, we were marching in a parade at least once a week! 😳

No Seat Belts!

No seat belts! 😲

Who remembers when you didn't need to wear seat belts in the back seat of a car? From sliding uncontrollably from one side of the seat to the other during turns, to popping up off the seat when running over pot holes in the road...it often made car rides interesting! 😅

Attention Issues

I couldn't resist the urge to scribble random drawings on my paper during classtime!

Before I knew it, nearly my entire page had become one big scene! 😅✏️ 

On a Stroll

I'd often look for opportunities to go for a walk through the neighborhood on my own.

These walks were great for taking in some new scenery, but would also allow my mind to wonder. I'd eventually find myself deep in thought about school, family, and friends.🤔

It's Time

This was what a typical school night looked like for me...waiting until the last possible moment to start my homework 😅📚✏️

Rattle

The house I grew up in had single pane windows. Unfortunately, they didn't keep a lot of the cold air out of the house in the winter. To help, we had storm windows on the outside, which unfortunately had sashes that rattled terribly in the wind.

For a young child, a sudden rattle at the window can startle you...just a little bit 😳

One Headlight

Shout out to the kids who read in the car at night. 😁

No, we didn't have smartphones or tablets with light-up screens back in the day...we had to rely on the car's headlights behind us to be able to see what we were reading! 😅📚
