Placemat Doodles

In my last cartoon I mentioned when the family would go out to eat, I would draw on the paper placemat while waiting for our food. My FAVORITE paper placemat to draw on had to be the one at the Anchor Inn resturant in Wheaton, Maryland. Their placemat had a pen and ink drawing of an 18th century ship.

The scenes I could create on that placemat!🤯⚓️✏️

For an example of a scene I may have created on that type of paper placemat, I thought I'd add Godzilla lurking in the background. Not a modern interpretation of the creature, but the classic "rubber suit" version I grew up watching on old VHS tapes from the movie rental store! 😄📼

When the family went out to eat, I'd spend the time waiting for our food drawing doodles on the paper placemat. Fast forward to today, and I'm still sketching cartoons while I wait for my food!

Second Thoughts

The first time I lifted a drum... the instrument I would be marching with on tons of parades, most with routes miles long... I suddenly wondered what I had gotten myself into! 😳🥁🎵

Forbidden Limits

Summer days were meant for exploring! 😁🧭

My parents would've been furious if they knew, but I occasionally rode my bike a bit beyond the neighborhood limits so I could try out the arcade in the nondescript building we'd pass by on the main highway out of town. I'd save up some coins from my allowance so I could play a few games before I would be missed! 😅 🪙

Summer Plans

About now, I'd start to realize the summer was rapidly flying by! My friends and I would plan to maximize the rest of our time before the new school year starts! 😮‍💨

Skate Night!

It's the weekend! 🥳

On Saturdays, there was one hangout my sister and I would often be found...the local roller rink! We'd spend hours there skating around in a circle, listening to the upbeat music, and would be disappointed when we were told it was time to go home!🛼😎

Friendship

Friendship bracelets! Who else wore them back in the day?

At the peak of their popularity, I wore about a half dozen of them on my arm! 😎😅

Sunday Night

Going to bed on a Sunday night during the summer felt sooo different than during the school year! 😴

Definitely a more peaceful night sleep! 😊

Family Movie Night

Saturday night, after my sister and I had taken our baths, we'd all gather in front of the television to watch one of the movies we rented for the weekend!

Bonus if it was my night to pick the movie! 🥰 🎥
