When we played football during recess, our team usually had me cover the quarterback.
We had a rule when we played...the defense couldn't cross the line of scrimmage to go after the QB for a set number of seconds. I treated my job very seriously...I felt like a badger, ready to pounce once the time had lapsed! I just stood there waiting while I counted! ð ð ð
I feel like many kids these days won't get to experience a parent leaving them alone in a car to run into a store "for a few minutes". ð ðð
During our class lunchtime, we often played a coin toss game. ðŠ
Our opponent would make a basket with their hands, and the goal was to flip the coin into the basket.
My trajectory would be off a bit, which often meant my opponent got a coin flipped at their head! ðĪð
The tree outside my bedroom window was close enough I could reach out and hang my G.I. Joe figures from the branches.
It was fun waking up to see the figures repelling from the tree! ð

I remember back in the day when my father took me to his job, it was tough to keep me entertained. Eventually, Dad figured if he placed a blank sheet of paper in front of me, I'd easily get lost in my doodles! ð ✏️ð
Socially Awkward
I've heard this from several cartoonists over the years - when around a group of people, they often feel like a "social klutz", unable to truly interact with others in that kind of setting.
I can definitely relate!
Maybe it's because we're constantly "in our own head", contemplating life in general. Many of those thoughts that distract us from those social settings tend to become subject matter for future cartoons! ð✏️
So, if you see me out and about, and I appear to struggle to connect with the rest of the group, please be lenient...it's just how I'm wired. ðĪŠ
This time of year, we'd get the occasional cricket in the house that needed "attention". I was pretty bad at trying to keep up with them as they jumped around the room.
They usually got away! ð
